Morocco birds trip report 21st - 28th november 2008

Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4

Souss Massa

Getting to Souss Massa on your own is quite easy. From Agadir take the N1 to Tiznit and then take the road sign posted to Sidi Rbat. Once at the T junction at Sidi Rbat take a right and this will take you straight to the reserve entrance. There is no other way.

This reseve was a great place to visit. As soon as we entered the birds started clocking up. First of all, Crag Martins hawked overhead and then down at the estuary, Good numbers of Black-winged Stilt, Glossy Ibis, Serin accompanied Snipe, Teal, Shoveler, Green Sandpiper, and Redshank. A rustling in the reeds soon revealed a mongoose but unfortunately it about turned and scarpered before my camera could fire off any shots. Soon, Marsh Harrier, Bonelli's Eagle took flight and a Yellow Wagtail sp perched up on the reeds making a distinctly different call from our Yellow Wagtails. Black-crowned Tchagra could be heard singing on the other side of the river but sadly did not show.
