Morocco birds trip report 21st - 28th november 2008

Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4

Tamri

Tamri is a short drive north of Agadir along the coast. A rather pleasant coastal road takes you along some splendid coastline with the mountains on the other side of the road. Soon after leaving Agadir we came across stretches of beach that hosted groups of gulls. Here we found our first Audouin's Gulls and in good numbers too. During an Audouin's photo stop, a Thekla Lark gave good views feeding in the layby. Shortly after this, my first Moussier's Redstart appeared at the roadside. The bird showed remarkable tolerance of my presence allowing some great photos which I often looked at over and over again during the week. Once at the Tamri estuary a surfer attempted to take money from us by charging to park in the free car park. It's worth bearing in mind that if on your own, you will be approached by people trying to get money from you and they can be quite persistent. Whilst the estuary held no Bald Ibis, there was Spoonbill, Moroccon Wagtail, Kentish Plover and Fan-tailed Warbler. Spanish Sparrow was also seen plus Chiffchaffs in almost every bush.
